Character Information

Name: Kaya
Canon: Akatsuki no Yona
Canon Point: After chapter 104
Age: 17-18
History: We don't know much about Kaya's background story but the bare bones. At some point of her young life, she caught an infectious, deadly disease which symptoms seem similar to tuberculosis (coughing blood, fevers...) Worried about spreading her illness, the young girl decided to live alone, far from towns and other people, in a hut by the woods. She seemed accepting of her fate of surviving on her own until her early death, as sad and lonely as it was.

Then one day, she found an unconscious young man with his clothes stained in blood. She checked him out, and noticed he was still alive. Incapable of leaving him there, she dragged the boy to her house, changed him to clean clothes, and prepared him the best meal she could cook. The guy woke up, but to her surprise he rejects her kindness and food at first, saying that he wished he would die. Later at night, she had a coughing fit that alarmed the man, and he ran to help her back to the only bed in the house. She confessed about her illness and, after sharing some laughs, she asked for his name. Zeno had to think about it, as it had been long since he had last heard his name. She recommended him to talk in third person like she used to sometimes so he wouldn't forget. He then apologized for his rudeness. She didn't mind, and asked him to leave as soon as possible so he didn't catch her disease. He, however, wasn't worried about it and wanted to take care of her in order to pay back the favor.

That's how Zeno started to live in Kaya's house. He got a job and spent the money he made in medicine for Kaya. He brought vegetables for her, helped her with the chores, and even gave her gifts such as pretty flowers. They were happy and had fun everyday as they kept each other company. They took walks by the woods. He looked after her on her bad health days. Soon the friendship blossomed into a star-crossed love, as Kaya never fully recovered and was bound to die soon. She would sigh and wish time would stay still during those precious moments.

One particular night, as Zeno took care of Kaya, she talked to him seriously and urged him to leave. He had returned the favor, and if he stayed longer he would get sick as well. But Zeno stubbornly said no, he would never get sick. He asked if she didn't want him to be with her anymore. She assured him it wasn't the case, that she had fun. Zeno then said he wanted to talk to Kaya everyday and stay with her forever. She replied that forever was impossible. He then interrupted her and proposed to her. "Let's get married," he said. Kaya started to cry loudly in response, shocked by the extend of his love.

What she never knew was the fact that Zeno was one of founder King Hiryuu's already legendary Dragon Warriors, and he had been given immortality and an undying dragon body by a dragon god. Even if she had been a healthy girl, their time together would've been limited and their love would've been star-crossed anyway. Zeno prayed to his god and begged for Kaya's salvation, for her life to last longer even if it was one day. Those prayers were never answered.

And thus Kaya one day passed away on her bed as her dear husband held her hand. "Let's meet again above the skies, okay?" were her last words after expressing her gratitude. Zeno agreed with a sad smile, despite knowing he was going to break the promise. He was unable to die, he could never follow her to heaven, and he was never going to see her again.

Personality: Kaya is a sweet young girl who appreciates life. She loves the small things and embodies carpe diem in a fitting way. She's genuinely compassionate and kind, to the point of bringing a stranger to her house and giving out her precious food. She's the kind of gal who'd make an effort to help and lend her bed, despite being sick and feeling bad that day. As much as she enjoys company and friendship with others, she's also selfless and wouldn't want to see anyone troubled or getting hurt because of her. She has a strong and mature spirit to be able to withstand the loneliness and the fear of dying, to accept taking the sacrifice in order to keep other people safe.

She's adorable and cheerful, trying to look at the bright side. She loves cute things! She has a radiant smile, as contagious as her disease. Even mundane things like housework can be fun to her as long as they're done with love or optimism. She tries her best but doesn't worry much about making things perfect -she can be clumsy to the point of breaking a door, and her cooking is sloppy, but she just shrugs it off since it doesn't matter in the great scope. As long as things work out fine, it's alright. She's a simple country girl from a medieval setting who had to live isolated, so she's not well versed about most basic things. I can see her being curious about this new situation and these worlds full of strange things and wonders, despite not remembering her old life. She's easygoing and accepts others with an open mind that borders in foolishness, hoping they'd be good people -dragging an unconscious man into her bed is... not too wise, no.

She's independent and down to earth, as she was somehow able to live on her own with no adults and get things done before Zeno moved in. That strength is admirable, how he managed to take care of everything while being this young and despite her sickness. She will feel uncomfortable if she becomes a burden or a hazard to others. Even though she can be naive, she has a practical mind and understands that bad, unfair event are bound to happen, and was aware of how ephemeral her life was. She has some childish habits and mannerisms despite her maturity, such as talking to herself, repeating words, raising her arms upwards when expressing her approval. However, while she can cry easily when she's extremely happy, she will keep any sad tears to herself and keep beaming so people wouldn't worry about her problems.

Abilities: She's a normal human girl with no special powers whatsoever. She has domestic skills such as cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, sewing, probably also weaving and other handicrafts proper from her time period. As she lives in the woods, she has a good knowledge about plants and herbs, and she sustained herself through scavenging and gardening (in the anime she's seen tending an informal yard).
Strengths: Kindness, optimism, cheerfulness, friendliness, mental fortitude.
Weaknesses: Naivety, loneliness, puts others before own welfare, ignorance, lack of ambition or personal goals.

God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: As a kind-hearted girl who's not used to that kind of responsibility, I feel the role of god might be too much for her to handle. Not being able to help everyone might make her feel too burdened. A support role might be better for her. Besides, the memory loss would bring some different dynamics into Zeno and Kaya's relationship that would be fun to explore.
Cause Of Death: Terminal disease (canon)
Vessel: A scarf with a flower-shaped clasp
Name Location: Right shoulder
Power: Flora manipulation. She would give her god the ability to sprout plants of all sorts and make existing ones grow. Probably not to the extent of making a really tall tree pop out of nowhere, though. But herbs or flowers or medium-sized plants would be fine.

Anything Else?: Yes, I'd prefer her to be paired up with Zeno as his shinki if possible, please!
